A halo echoed through the cloud cover, captured by Triacle's action camera. The cloud had been so thick that I assumed there was nothing on the camera recording and was about to delete the entire recording without checking it first. That's how those halos surprise. In some parts of the timelapse, I could even see clips of a dim 46° tire, but the image in the video was of such low quality that it is not possible to say for sure whether it was that or some artifacts. (These pictures are not here.) The upper part of the 22° tire is brighter, it could be that the upper part is included, bu...

Figure 1: left side sun in cirrus cloud fibers. The lower clouds partially cover the cirrus, creating a surreal cloudscape view. Picture 2: the right-hand side sun in the church village of Jurva.

While I was in the yard, I noticed that the northern sky is green again. So bright that you could already tell with your eyes that they were the northern lights. Active movement was also visible in them. There were some clouds ahead. I took a few photos as proof. Later, I looked at the "aurora borealis" to see that there had been a short-lived spike just at that time. Lapland had jumped to the red for a while, and values rose in the south as well. Luckily, I was in the yard just then, and the clouds weren't disturbing too much either.

The upper clouds started to push out from the west, and I took the action camera to the edge of the field to catch possible halos. After three hours of hunting, the sun had gone down, the battery had run out, and the camera had captured the weak 22° tire clip that had been visible twice.

My aurora sighting started with corona. And now I'm not talking about that disease. I went to the yard to take a look at the cloud cover situation. In the middle sky, I noticed strange-looking clouds that resembled an aurora corona. I took the camera and took a picture of it. The "clouds" were indeed green, so it was the Northern Lights corona! I hadn't followed the northern lights, this came as a bit of a surprise. I took pictures from other parts of the sky as well, and everywhere was green. And there were also clouds, behind which the aurora borealis mostly remained at the beginning...

An event-poor aurora borealis show in the northern sky. It was brighter at first (picture 1), but when I had moved to a slightly more open observation spot, it had already dimmed, and gradually dimmed further. That's all the aurora activities I observed that night have already been listed. I wanted a little change from these self-repeating green-arc-low-in-the-north pictures by trying to shoot a panorama. But of course those pictures couldn't be seamlessly glued together, optical distortions already prevented that. So I left the seam points quite visible, resulting in a panorama-like p...

A promising upper cloud was moving in the direction of the Sun, and we had to wait to see if there would be halos. Finally came. Side suns on both sides, of which the one on the left was bright and the one on the right was barely distinguishable. At the distance of the side sun, there were weak short arc segments, which in theory could be, for example, Lowitzes, but I now carefully mark them as segments of a 22° ring. A faint sun pillar was also visible. In addition to that, in the picture there is a "line" going from the Sun to the upper left, which I assume is a ray of clouds, it is hardly a...

Wide-ranging and vague, Bishop came into view as the clouds cleared during the day. In Illema, it was no longer distinguished. Was this also the result of sand dust from the Sahara? The pictures were taken through a convex mirror. The colors, contrast, etc. of picture 1 have been adjusted. Image 2 BG processed, making Bishop stand out from the sky very clearly. Figure 3 is otherwise untreated, but the edges have been cut off.

According to the forecast of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, "the probability of northern lights was slightly elevated". In practice, it meant, at best, an aurora veil that covered about a quarter of the sky (picture 3), the exact nature of which was difficult to get clear due to the cloud cover. Presumably there were two more active moments, one before eleven and the other before one. The latter produced brighter aurora borealis, and in that connection even a beam could be seen from the break in the clouds (picture 1).

"Small disturbances may occur in space weather," said the forecast of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. This is what it means in practice. Calm northern lights in the northern sky, a little higher than usual. The most active moment was probably before half past two, from which picture 2. At the time of picture 1 taken in a more open place, shortly before two, the arch had already weakened and sunk lower. At that time of the night, the clouds did not disturb the view of the northern lights much, in contrast to what has often been the case in recent weeks. The arc was still in the sky when I...

I was visiting Kauhajoki. In the center of the city, I noticed a pretty bright side sun, first to the right and then to the left of the Sun. I took a few photos, but the observation location was difficult, and I moved outside the center, ending up through various turns in the yard of the auto parts store, from which the majority of the photos, photos 1-5. While photographing, I noticed that there were arc segments near the side suns, but I interpreted the arcs as parts of a 22° tire. But when I examined the pictures afterwards, I found that the arches are a bit off the 22° tire, and also too s...

A strange ring around the Sun. The sky looked clear, that is, the circle did not form in the cloud. The shape and size remind me of a pollen ring, but I guess no plant blooms anymore. You can see a lot of mushrooms in the terrain, maybe mushroom spores had something to do with this circle? No clear colors were visible in the ring. As the main image, the version adjusted with BR processing, from which I measured roughly 4° as the radius of the circumference. Second image without processing. The ring was visible at least for the time marked in the observation, but possibly all day, and even the ...

A large amount of footage was collected from this day, but nothing but a 22° tire was found in the photos even after processing. It is best seen in this action camera image. With a decent camera with a cover, nothing more came off. The lower clouds were disturbing the visibility of the upper clouds, and in the morning there was still a cloud of fog.

Dim basic halos, from which the side sun was visible to the eyes more clearly than a 22° ring. The pictures seem to be the opposite. The 22° halo is very symmetrical above the Sun in the images, but it still cannot be an overhead arc, because the overhead arc is not nearly round at such low altitudes of the Sun (about 30° at the time the picture was taken).

At best, a pretty bright rainbow, even if it wasn't visible as a complete arc. Would there even be some kind of anomaly? Just as if the radius of curvature of the main rainbow changes at the halfway point of the arc. At first the arch looked normal (picture 3). The second image is GR-processed, which also brings out the interference curves more clearly.

Based on the rain radar image, a storm front was approaching, so I put the action camera in the yard to watch for possible halos. The camera recording showed a weak 22° ring ahead of the front for a few minutes. (I don't have a personal observation about that.) The image quality of that cheap action camera doesn't really stand up to image processing, but I still couldn't help but process it (lower image of the pair of images).

A surprising nocturnal halo show. Including at least 22° stuff and a side moon, a weak 46° something and apparently also pyramidal halos. Again, it happened to me that I only realized afterwards, when I was studying the pictures, that there had been something more special in the sky. With my eyes, I could only see the 22° ring and occasionally the side moon, dim as well. Originally, I went to visit the yard sometime in the middle of the night to check if the northern lights could be seen. Well, no, but in that context I noticed that upper clouds are starting to accumulate in the sky. Since the...

After a break of more than a week, there was a suitable "halo cloud" in the sky again, where at least a faint arc of the zenith environment was visible. A 22° tire also seemed to be included, and possibly also a topside opening. The sun was about to set, and this didn't have time to develop into anything more than a halo play.

The sky was clear for a change, and the space weather showed some activity in Lapland, so I checked the northern lights situation in the yard. The northern sky did look a little lighter than the rest of the sky, but the eyes couldn't say for sure what that gentle glow was. The photos told the truth: they were the Northern Lights.

Basic halos that are just visible to the eye. Apparently in the clouds that have the characteristics of colored clouds, because halos were not wanted to come out of the clouds with image processing. They looked almost better in unprocessed pictures. Well, picture 1 has been "enhanced" a bit by fine-tuning the contrast, color, etc.
