Quiet aurora band

14.9.2023 at 21.45 - 01.25 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I pedaled to the nearby small jetty on the shore of Kymijoki when the repo curls looked promising and the sky was clear. There was a bit of cloud in the north in front of the calm aurora borealis. I rarely took pictures of the arch, but when I noticed red rays at the west end of the arch (picture 1, 21:58), I started shooting the series (picture 2, shooting time in the upper corner). With the naked eye, I could only distinguish green, so I only marked that color on the form under "Colors with the naked eye and other characteristics". The arch wasn't hugely agitated by it, but I noticed a d...

Anomalous corona

11.9.2023 at 18.35 - Kouvola (III)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I stopped to take a picture of the anomalous ring. The sand of the Sahara was rumored to be in the air, maybe the flame had a part in this as well. The size was too small for Bishop, I estimated the radius to be ten degrees. However, I took a picture with a circular fisheye so that I could compare with previous Bishops photographed with the same cake. At first it seemed that in addition to the circle that was my target, there was also a wider circle in the picture. But when I softened the contrast of the image a bit, the larger ring-like one wasn't so clear anymore. And it didn't even ...

Meteor image

9.9.2023 at 23.28 - Kouvola (III)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Thanks to Harri Kiiskinen's advice, I was able to consider observing the epsilon Perseids in September, and when the clear evening continued into a clear night, I put the camera to work. I only stayed for a few minutes and during that time I didn't see any shooting stars. Even the camera had only caught one, and if Stellarium is to be trusted, it was also sporadic. Of course, I didn't remember to check the camera's clock before shooting, even though it crossed my mind at some point, but calibrated according to the time reference picture taken afterwards (from mikes.fi official ...

Rare halos

7.9.2023 at 10.53 - 17.22 - Kouvola (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Halo report part 2/2: timelapse from 10.53-16.19 After an active twenty minutes, I left the camera shooting at 10 sec intervals. The unprocessed timelapse (first image, 20fps) has occasional spectacular halos, and the processed version reveals much more (image 2, 10fps). I made separate stacks of the most interesting points, and corresponding simulations: Figure 3: (see processed video, at 0:59) Six images, 12:30 p.m., 34.8° + simu as gif I was surprised when, in the simulation, the Lowitzes did not come across the "X" at the right Saur at all. I tried to simulate alternative Lowitzes and they...

Rare halos

7.9.2023 at 10.27 - 10.50 - Kouvola (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

First of all, thanks to the Helicopter Battalion of the Uti Jääkäririkmenti: without the helicopters, this halo could have gone completely unnoticed. After all, it's always good to see the sky when you hear a helicopter, even now. I heard the NH90 passing nearby and rushed to the balcony with the camera. There were actually two helicopters, but at that moment they were invisible. There was a little 22 degree tire looming in the sky and I thought that now I could get a halo/heko joint portrait. More helicopters appeared, two NH90s and two MD500s flew in circles over Myllykoski. I switched t...

Crepuscular rays

6.9.2023 at 20.13 - 20.19 - Kouvola (III)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I was bringing my daughter from practice and I noted the shadow of the ground, but it didn't cross the photography threshold. After a while of driving, when we reached the clearing again, I noticed a clear twilight cloud and it crossed the threshold for photography. I first took a couple of pictures with a 14-millimeter and suddenly I realized that the rain (or rather, it's a shadow) stretches across the sky. I took a five-shot panorama from the view and switched to wider optics. There was nothing publishable from the pictures of the circular fish eye. (In the image taken straight up, ...

Several halo forms

4.9.2023 at 18.05 - 18.20 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The daughter posted a picture of the pretty side sun on the right that she saw. I immediately went to the yard to check the situation and it happened there. Except that I could see the one on the right and so much reach upwards and it curves so much that I also mark the tire.

Several halo forms

1.9.2023 at 23.30 - 00.30 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

We leftthe Majatalo show at the Jokivarre theater and noticed Kuu in the parking lot. I immediately saw that it was a bit like a pillar. And there seemed to be small bumps on both sides of the Moon, even on a slightly flat shore. And when I looked up a bit, the above side window could be seen horizontally brightening. And a bit of a 22 character too. And even higher there was a weak zykki. And 46's character. I didn't even have a cell phone on the trip, so I hurried home to the camera. Fortunately, the journey wasn't long and the halos were still strong when I got the camera on fir...

One halo form

28.8.2023 at 18.05 - 19.25 - Kouvola (I)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

By the time we got to the market, we could see a dim right-hand side window. I stopped to grab the cell phone camera documents (pictures 1 and 2). When leaving the store, Sauri was a bit more impressive, this time the one on the left (picture 3). While driving, Sauri looked quite impressive and I decided to take a picture from the same place as when I came. It's a shame that I didn't notice this until I had just driven it. past the place and it took me a while before I turned around and got there. During that time, the halo had already partially hidden behind the cloud (pictures 4 and ...

Crepuscular rays

26.8.2023 at 21.12 - Kouvola (III)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I was going to watch the fireworks at the end of the Tykkimäki amusement park when I noticed clearly visible twilight rays. Had to stop to grab evidence.

One halo form

26.8.2023 at 19.00 - Kouvola (I)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I barely had time to park the car before the crystal cloud that was in the side sun distance moved away from the right distance. The camera was also ready on the back seat, albeit equipped with a 150-600mm tube, but it was quite suitable optics for a lonely side sun.

Rare halos

25.8.2023 at 16.05 - Kotka (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

When leaving work, I could see 22r in such a diffuse state (picture 1) that I had to stop to get the right stacks. I took a couple of stacks off hand before hooking the camera support to the roof of the car. In the stacks, nothing "extra" was found on the 22r wheels, but surprisingly, the 9r stood out quite clearly. I couldn't even guess that live, even though I could guess the fire. In the second picture, the first stack of hand tools where the BR hanky has been twisted on the terms of 9r, in the third picture, looking for 46r. As a quadrilateral, there is still a pile of car roof parts f...

Aurora rays

21.8.2023 at 01.06 - 01.07 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

The aurora values were high, but I slept very well. So I left the camera fixed to the north window with a ten second interval (0.08-3.57). in the morning, when I flashed through the pictures on the back screen, I was satisfied that I wasn't watching, because there was nothing in the pictures referring to repos. In the evening, I looked with a little more brightness and noticed that something small was still moving here and there. Attached is a clip of about a minute from the "best" part where high beams were visible. (The light wide vertical bar on the right side is the reflection of the w...

Rare halos

18.8.2023 at 08.00 - 14.25 - Kouvola (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Around breakfast, a 22 degree tire is fine. A faint ghost of 46r was found in Järkkäri's individual photos. Camera to the balcony to wait for the Sun to appear from behind the maple tree. That's where it came from in time, pushing 22 and 46 degree tires in front of them, and as their accessories 22 side openings, side suns and zyks. And some faint ripples on the outside of 22 were visible in the stack animation (picture 1). I interpreted it as a 24 degree tire. I made a stack of fifteen pictures from one point in two different versions of Hema (pictures 2 and 3). From the video, as a f...

Other storm phenomenon

16.8.2023 at 23.30 - 01.20 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I was very tired and I was already going to sleep at half past twelve when I saw a glimpse of the southern horizon from the upstairs window. Kalevantuli. I went to the balcony to observe and use the flash finder to see where the flashes are in the distance. The lightning strike was in the Gulf of Finland, somewhere off Loviisa, less than a hundred kilometers away. I stayed "just for a moment" to observe which direction the lightning was moving. I also got a camera as a surveillance buddy. If you could take a few pictures. Two hours and 770 pictures later, I realized that it was not coming and ...

Rare halos

16.8.2023 at 12.50 - 13.25 - Kotka (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

By lunch, I could see a parhelia-like arch from which I took a couple of pictures with my cell phone. The intention was to pick up a sledgehammer if the arch was still visible when leaving from lunch. And it was, but by the time I drove from the lunch place to the office (less than 5 minutes), the low clouds had parked on the line of fire and then there was no opportunity for further observation.

Rare halos

14.8.2023 at 13.00 - 15.30 - Kouvola (IV)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

It was so overcast that it could even be a halo. I took a short stack and left the camera shooting the series. At some point I already noticed a bit of color, either the lower part of the 22 tire or the underside opening. That left visual observations. The material could be gutted for a few moments, when various halo forms ignited in the sky. Perhaps more would have been found without the hindrance of low clouds. picture 1: The first picture of the stack in nature. Just starting with the ring, but I didn't notice it at that stage. figure 2: stack of 15 images. image 3: Three fragments of t...

Perseids

13.8.2023 at 00.40 - 04.00 - Kouvola (II)
Tero Sipinen, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

I asked my daughter to go to the riverside to fuck her. I unexpectedly got an affirmative, even enthusiastic response. Well, he was going to snare. So for one, a snare drum and for the other a camera and a sleeping pad for the trip and with the pillars to the shore of Kymijoki. Even in the snare you could catch meteors; the girl must have already seen five when I had just moved the camera further out of the reach of the headlamp and found a somewhat tolerable position for the tent mattress on the cliff. The beginning seemed promising when a handsome Perseid was visible, which remained smoking ...
