Anticrepuscular rays

24.6.2022 at 23.30 - Kangasala
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Yes, we will be pampered. On a picturesque and warm Midsummer night, one of the finest twilight rays I saw in my home lit up the sky.

Anticrepuscular rays

A small hazelnut. I will now publish this with the tag Shadow of the Earth when something like this is going on, but of course this situation is not quite explained now. I thought if the guards wanted to come up with theories about what a miracle gave birth to such a situation. For myself, this was the first "mystical red wedge on the horizon" I saw of its kind. ;) I'll update the story later and maybe add pictures. But if I would go for a moment like this first. : D EDIT: I added two pictures. The first image is the original and first published and was therefore taken at 11:14 p.m. Figure...

Primary reflection rainbow

29.5.2022 at 22.00 - 22.40 - Tampere (IV)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

What a great evening. I got a hint from my mom that there would be a reflection rainbow in the sky in her neighborhood, so there was nothing to do but shoot the yard and put the mist in the pipe. I had time to shoot something myself, even before the beach. However, it was worth settling for this, as there was no time to waste.

Several bright halo forms

26.12.2021 at 14.10 - 15.10 - Kangasala (III)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Arctic Christmas candle. The finest pillar of candle I had ever seen lit up at sunset on Midsummer’s Day. (The red of the pillar was so deep that images uploaded in the sRGB color space don't do it right. In these web images, the center of the pillar turns yellowish and such discontinuities in the tone slide appear as artifacts in the images. A boring thing when it would be great to get the images on the lines so that they are at their best. But that would require all Internet users to have wide-gamut monitors that reproduce a wide range of colors).

Several halo forms

21.12.2021 at 22.30 - 00.10 - Pälkäne (II)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Frosty night decoration, always an equally fine 22 degree ring. The horizon ring was also going along, albeit very dimly ghosting.

Light pillars

7.12.2021 at 19.30 - 22.00 - Tampere (II)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

As tall and handsome as the Näsinneula is, it seemed to shrink into a dwarf alongside these pillars. The phenomenon was at its brightest as soon as I got to the scene and then quickly faded. Such good pillars were no longer visible after that.

Light pillars

6.12.2021 at 23.30 - 00.30 - Tampere (II)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The pillars arrived to decorate the frosty night. The crystal material here wasn’t quite the best way to get to the pillar crystal, but the view was all very beautiful.

Rare halos

26.11.2021 at 22.00 - 04.30 - Jämsä (IV)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Great night. The ice mist was extremely dense and my jacket slowly changed from black to almost white as the icing accumulated over the hours. Given how heavy the crystal rain was, the sky remained nicely transparent. Temperatures ranged from -12 to -15. The best stage was, I think, minus fifteen. Although the conditions at the nearest observation stations were the so-called on paper condition, no ice mist took to spread. But then some kind of threshold was crossed and soon there were ice skiers in the area of square kilometers. As I drove away, I noticed that there seemed to be local pockets ...

Quiet aurora band

1.9.2021 at 23.10 - 00.07 - Tampere (II)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I didn't get any Aurigids in the pictures, but one sporadic after all. The satellites had a thick sky, of course, and one plane drew its line in the air. The northern lights were such that at times an observer rattling his cell phone separated the nipple pole in the motion of the rays in the sky. A certain camera picked them up more clearly and even the colors appeared. A tiny 4K timelapse for less than an hour can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_P3ZctgRe4

Perseids

12.8.2021 at 23.05 - 02.10 - Tampere
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

In this picture, star flights have been collected for about two hours from midnight to two o'clock. I couldn’t make a very good sum picture as I was only able to collect hits in the first box in the series where the background sky was the brightest. So many of the asses nicely separated in the later pictures disappeared into almost nonexistence in this summit image of the lighter background sky. I didn't even bother to put all the hits on the stack then when aligning them and slamming with the layers was such a laborious operation. The bright flare on the left side seems to be sporadic...

Eye-catching night shining clouds

11.8.2021 at 00.00 - 00.40 - Tampere (V)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

A nice bright play with very particularly sharp shapes included. In addition, there were great details that reminded me of the swirls of Jupiter’s cloudbands. I pick up the details with a telephoto lens.

Eye-catching night shining clouds

3.8.2021 at 23.10 - 03.40 - Ruovesi (V)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Just when it became clear from the previous one, a completely epic night play rolled into the sky again. The strengths of this show were the dark background sky during the darkest moments of the night and the cruel contrast. At the best moment, the night clouds were really eye-catching and illuminated the landscape. The brown at the top stood out in this play, but sometimes it’s been even stronger: https://jari.pic.fi/kuvat/Atmospheric+phenomena+and+sky/High+atmosphere/2016_08_13-14+Exceptional+Red+Coloration+on+NLC/ Note. The extent of the clouds in the sky was initially a very small strip on...

Eye-catching night shining clouds

21.7.2021 at 00.20 - 02.10 - Tampere (V)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

There was even strong intensity in this play - it goes by throwing it into my own TOP 3 list! Brightness, scope and contrast were enough. In addition, the shapes were incredibly beautiful to my own eyes, especially at one time in the morning. The strong wind made it a bit difficult to shoot, but by trying stubbornly I got even a little unwavering branches in the pictures when I whitewashed the place appropriately. Muu valoilmiö

19.7.2020 at 18.00 - Kangasala (IV)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Such a summer fun. I went diving in Kangasala in Ukkijärvi, and there seems to be blue-green algae or some other algae as a fairly flat flock of algal particles floating in water. Since the situation was in a fun way reminiscent of winter ice mist (without being there anyway), I decided to look at what kind of optics can be observed in the situation. The figure shows the light density caused by the Caustic Zones on the surface, i.e. the undulation, and the colors produced by chromatic aberration. This beam was visible when the beam of view was at approximately right angles to the beam projecte...

Valoilmiö levässä

18.5.2019 at 13.40 - Ruovesi (V)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The Chromophyton cavalcade appeared in the field of view as I passed the forest pond. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to describe all the phenomena of the species, but the awful nice surprise this was like that. There were several ponds and the phenomenon stood out in them in different ways.

Pilvikaari maanpinnalta

26.2.2019 at 12.30 - 15.00 - Posio (IV)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

Snowshoeing on Riisitunturi got a whole new feel when a cloud of clouds glowed in the sky throughout the day. At times, only its base parts stood out, sometimes the entire arch. The start and end times of the observation are about times, the brightest moment in our eyes happened a little after 2 p.m. At that time, the arc clearly showed color on its outer edge, but when I changed the ultra-wide angle of the camera, the coloring faded and I didn't get it in the pictures. At its best, the arc was quite bright and spectacular as a cloud arc. It was fun to place a camping mattress on the proje...

Halo phenomena covering the sky

19.1.2019 at 11.30 - 12.50 - Tampere (V)
Jari Luomanen, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

A beautiful halo play of the Sun today in Tampere. The cloudiness in the background was a little distracting, but nonetheless, the icicles clearly stood out in the sky. The birth of the crystal cloud is still a bit open, as I had driven past the slopes of Hervanta a moment ago and my impression was that the cannons would not have been on at the time. Maybe I misjudged - I didn't go to the slope. Or they had been on before. Go know, maybe have to ask a question. Opposite the sky stood the dim Greenler, in loose crystals near its Y-shape as well. I focused on depicting the side of the Sun, b...

The upper cloud cloud in the direction of the sun produced such beautiful counter-cloud rays.
