Active aurora band

3.10.2022 at 23.10 - 23.25 - Rusko (III)
Mikko Peussa, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

The timing was pretty spot on this time. When I arrived at the observation site, the aurora borealis just started to intensify and when it ended, the clouds rolled in front of me. At the end, the pulsating spots stood out well with the eyes. Those are the green areas a little higher in the last two pictures.

Rare halos

3.10.2022 at 12.25 - 12.35 - Tampere (IV)
Johannes Dahlström

Stumbled upon while walking around in the center of Tampere. In addition to the usual 22° stuff, there was more to be found in the sky when I stayed for a while to look. The contrast and clarity of the images have been increased, which brought Parry quite clearly into view. I can't vouch for the identity of the 46° halo, but apparently ysk is more likely than a ring?

I don't know the terminology, but a full halo circle and apparently the upper sun, after which an even wider fainter halo circle.

Driving along the western route, you could see the sun behind the misty cloud cover and half a halo around it. Unfortunately, the pictures were only taken with a mobile phone, from a moving car.

Several bright halo forms

3.10.2022 at 09.30 - 10.30 - Janakkala (III)
Timo Martola, Ursa (Etelä-Suomi)

Hey, I photographed two nested halo rings (22 and 46 degrees) and their upper lateral arches(?) and ZYK in the courtyard of the Janakkala municipal hall. A jet also flew into the picture. The phenomenon was impressive, like the last greeting of a recently deceased person to a friend who has lost a loved one, score 4/5. It was about 10:20. The first time I noticed the phenomenon was in my backyard an hour earlier.

Start with a pilari + ys combination in the morning, and additionally in the morning another 22° ring and side sun. Occasionally, during the day, a ring/ys of things can be separated, and in the afternoon, zykki will be on display for a while.

A bright 22ys started the halo day, by nine also came 22r, side suns and solar pillar. When after ten there was another chance to observe the sky, you could still see the side suns otherwise the sky was covered by lower clouds.

Quiet aurora arc

3.10.2022 at 01.42 - 00.00 - Pirkkala (II)

Photographed from the Pirkkala side of the shore of Pyhäjärvi. What interests me the most is whether you can see a dune formation on the right side of the picture?

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

3.10.2022 at 01.12 - 01.19 - Helsinki (I)
Pentti Arpalahti

The Space Weather Center predicted repos throughout the country, which was true. Nurmijärvi's z-component had drawn a straight line downwards from one, from which I managed to recover less than ten minutes. It was probably the scariest repos observation ever. The green only oozed to the northwest in a tricky sector. There was nothing in the better northern observation hole.

Half-sky auroras

3.10.2022 at 01.00 - 02.00 - Kurikka (III)
Timo Nevala, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I guess I didn't see the beginning. The sky was already full of pulsating waves when I noticed the northern lights. At a low point in the northern direction, the arc brightened and belts and rays rose from it high into the sky. They didn't last very long until they faded away. All that remained was the arch and the gauze low in the north, which were also soon covered behind the clouds. I couldn't see the colors with the naked eye, but in the photos you can distinguish at least green and purple.

Half-sky auroras

3.10.2022 at 00.40 - 01.40 - Mustasaari, Helsingby (III)
Sebastian Sainio

It was "the night of geomagnetic thunder" again. I went to the yard sometime around midnight when I saw from NOAA's Real time solar wind data that the Bz value had dropped and stayed around -8 for a long time. The first aurora borealis were pretty basic, but after one o'clock it started happening. A strong eruption of aurora borealis rose into the sky from the west, which later covered more than half of the sky. At that time, the shapes were mostly very fast pulsating waves, visually coming as if they were waves from the north. The pulsing speed of the waves and splashes was really fas...

Auroras seen through breaks in the clouds

3.10.2022 at 00.00 - 04.50 - Ulvila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The aurora borealis was visible through a gap in the clouds on the night of October 2/3, 2022. According to the videos of Karhukamera, the northern lights appeared at approx. 00:00 and disappeared from view at approx. 04:50. Two activation periods were noticeable in the northern lights show, at 01.00-01.50 and 02.30-03.30. Abundant Cloudiness hindered the view of the northern lights. The first camera was frozen, but the triple camera saved. Unfortunately, the northern lights were badly overexposed.

Markku Poutanen, Ursa (Helsinki)

First light. As a result of a lengthy project, the first image through the new telescope. The easiest deep sky object to test the equipment on. The conditions were a bit challenging because of the humidity. All surfaces were wet and the beam of the headlamp revealed the wetness in all its harshness. After the pictures of the Andromeda galaxy, moisture started to appear as a ring around the stars, so more attempts had to be left inside. Technically and in terms of image processing still very lacking, but it was tested that everything works. Second, a picture of the hardware. A concrete pillar b...

I was a little late for the brighter phase, when the copter was not in the car. Both side suns were remarkably bright a few minutes earlier.

Dimly gazing throughout the day starting in the morning whenever the lower clouds retreated, in the form of side sun, zyk and 22° ring. Along with the perches, there was less of a photo opportunity, but the evening sun on the left side was bright enough that I had to capture it. Of course, at that point we had already reached the shore and a longer camera was also available.

On Sunday, halos on two occasions, first after noon a weak 22°r (picture 1) and then in the late afternoon at five o'clock on both sides of the arc of the zenith environment (pictures 2 and 3) and 22°r and side suns.
