A fireball at night, brighter than the venus

27.9.2022 at 20.22 - Helsinki (III)

I noticed the fireball sightings at 20:22 from the sky watcher on September 27th and I checked the Allsky camera to see if it was caught in the pictures. There it was, dim because of light pollution, but when I knew the time it was found :)..

14.8.2022 at 00.26 - 00.47 - Orimattila, Artjärvi, Tähtikallio (II)
Kari Laihia, Jani Katava, Toni Veikkolainen, Porin Karhunvartijat

(44264) Asteroid 1998 QH54 (1998 QH54,2001 AK39) was imaged on the second night of the 2022 August talcos. When photographing the planetary nebula NGC 6852, this came into the picture. A mid-main belt asteroid was discovered by the Loneos exploration program at Lowel Observatory's Anderson Mesa station (699) on August 27, 1998. The size of the asteroid is 3.64 km. There is nothing more to be found about this ordinary asteroid than the orbital data. When photographing, the dwarf planet was at a distance of 1.4245 au and at its closest on July 21, 2022 at 1.373 au. 1Fig. first image of the s...

I was photographing satellites on September 26, 2022 at 11:24 p.m. when a large image of a satellite hit the picture. The satellite Cosmos 923 Rocket would fit this image based on time and location.

Pentti Ketola, Ursa (Länsi-Suomi)

I was photographing the stars on Sunday evening, September 25, 2022 in Kokkola at 20:55 when I got the satellite in three pictures. It would seem to be NOSS 2-1 (C) according to Heavens-Above, in the first picture just at Lyra on the way to the west.

I was sitting on the balcony adjusting the telescope when a fireball appeared in the sky. From the vantage point, it appeared to drip almost straight down, flashing green around the yellow heart.

Milky way

24.9.2022 at 20.00 - 21.00 - Maldon, Australia (V)
Tomi Kurri, Porin Karhunvartijat

The center of the Milky Way photographed under really dark skies. On our way through Australia, we stopped in the state of Victoria in the small village of Maldon. The shooting location was found at the top of a local mountain peak, Mt Tarrengower. Seeing the Milky Way under these conditions (Bortle 2) is a truly impressive experience. On a moonless night, many details known only from photographs can be easily seen with the naked eye. Piippusumu in particular stands out very easily. The picture shows several well-known deep sky objects, such as the Lagoon Nebula and Trifid Nebula, the Eagle Ne...

Active aurora band

26.9.2022 at 23.15 - 05.15 - Ulvila (III)
Juha Ojanperä, Porin Karhunvartijat

The intermittently active aurora arc/belt was recorded in Bear Camera images on the night of September 26/27, 2022. From time to time, abundant Cloudiness hindered the view of the aurora borealis. Despite the clouds, the images and videos of Karhukamera were able to document the night's aurora display with sufficient accuracy. The first dim northern lights appeared low on the northern horizon at about 11:15 p.m. The show started to get better around 01:55, when the aurora arc/belt rose higher in the northern sky. Just as the belt activated and brightened, clouds completely covered the sky.

All-sky aurora

Looking for trials and experiences for the tracking stand from the generally dark skies. It's tight and this time too the clouds slightly changed the course of the evening and the balance of the evening was a little lighter. And regarding the northern lights, it probably wouldn't be too bad to say that it was a bit cloudy. Attached are a few pictures of the wider views in the evening, where you can only guess the true magnificence of the sky behind the clouds. These have been stopped to be taken during the journey home in places that have happened, so the overall content is a bit light...

Active aurora band

22.9.2022 at 22.30 - 01.30 - Kittilä (III)
Satu Juvonen, Ursa (Itä-Suomi)

This is probably a basic set in Lapland. The great northern lights, whose brightness was accentuated when the Moon was hidden and there is no wasted light in the nearby countries. The fires stayed pretty low. On the shore of Pallasjärvi at the Punaisenhieka hut, there were several wonderers and the atmosphere was devout, the lake was calm, the silence and darkness almost perfect.

Aurora rays

27.9.2022 at 03.33 - 05.01 - Helsinki (III)
Georg Kieninger

By chance, after waking up after 3:30, I looked out the window: as if there was a faint reposharso (photo 1, at 03:33). A quick glance at the curls, and yes, there seemed to be some good repos mahs. That is, a camera for burst shooting. The best stage was then after 4 o'clock, from that photos 2 and 3 (taken at 4:03 and 4:12). Also included is a timelapse of the entire observation period (picture 4).

Active aurora band

27.9.2022 at 02.00 - 04.00 - Porvoo, Sondby (III)
Jorma Koski, Ursa (Helsinki)

After I had bought the raincoat for the camera tested by Jari Luomanen in Tähdet ja väjä magazine 6|2022, I dared to use my best Canon to photograph the night sky by myself. Unfortunately, I started too early (20:30) and the batteries ran out before the best play. In addition, the settings were not suitable for the northern lights :( ... According to the photos on Facebook, after four was the best repose of autumn.

Quiet aurora band

23.9.2022 at 01.10 - Kittilä, Vuorentausta (II)
Kaisa Erkkilä

The aurora borealis was visible for several hours and was activated several times in the most different forms. The northern lights were calm in their movements and did not reach the zenith. The eyes could hardly distinguish colors, but the camera saw green, yellow and purple. I am mostly interested in the red one on the left in my picture, which was quite clearly visible in the direction of the west. Is there possibly a SAR arc?
